News Update#6 (24APR07): Changed Itinerary
April 23rd, 2007 by

Hello,
After a long period of inactivity on my homepage, it’s time for a proof of living.
Since Pakistan the idea of adjusting my itinerary was growing. Now being in India I finally decided to make it happen. Instead of crossing India and fly from the Indian East coast to Thailand, I will travel overland. This means going back to Pakistan and crossing the Hindukusch, Karakoram and Himalaya to Kashgi (China). From there I will cycle back into the Himalaya (Tibet) to Lhasa and further via Kunming into Laos. Since Laos has a border with Thailand the loop will be closed and from there I can resume my “old” plans ;-). I’m looking forward to get back into the fresh and cool mountains, especially now while cycling in the 40ies every day. Main reasons for the change are as following:
- No flight along the track if possible
- Tibet is undergoing massive changes (Lhasa got connected to the Chinese railway system in Feb.; roads are being paved and will attract more traffic and tourists in the remote areas; constant settlement of Han Chinese people in Tibet leading to increase the Chinese influence and further suppress Tibetian culture)
- Just because I like mountains and climbing up to 5400m passes sounds challenging…
As well please check on my homepage the changes below:
Enjoy the upcoming springtime
